NHS Audiology and Biomedical Science Bursary – Questions and Answers

How many bursaries are available?

In 2008-09, there will be 200 Biomedical Science bursaries.  The increase from 2007-2008 is because the Biomedical Science placements are over two years.

Who is eligible?

Those on a clinical placement who have been nominated by their university for a bursary.  In addition, students have to intend working with NHS Scotland after graduating. Only those students being charged the ‘home’ level of tuition fees by their university are eligible to apply.

Will I be eligible to claim the bursary if I have to repeat a placement year?

We will give consideration to requests for repeat years.  It will depend on the circumstances of each case as to whether we award the bursary.

Will I be eligible to claim the bursary if I attend another university?

No.  Only those eligible students studying at either Queen Margaret University, University of Abertay, Glasgow Caledonian University, Paisley University and Robert Gordon University can apply.

How do I apply for the bursary?

Students must complete an application which has to be endorsed by their university.  Application forms are available from participating universities.

When do I receive my bursary?

Providing you have fully completed the application then we will arrange to pay you in a lump sum as soon as we get confirmation of your attendance from the university.
