Support for graduate entry courses

What is a graduate entry course?

A graduate entry course is only available to you if you hold a degree and it is generally a compressed version of a full degree.  This means you may do a four year degree over two years or a five year degree over four years.  The graduate entry courses that SAAS are aware of are:

  • The 2 year accelerated LLB
  • The four year Veterinary medicine degree
  • The four year Dentistry degree
  • The four year Medicine degree (this is not available at a Scottish institution)

Fees for graduate entry courses

With the exception of the graduate entry Dentistry degree at Aberdeen (see below), we will not pay any fees (including the difference between the higher and standard fee) or a fee loan for a graduate entry course.  This applies even if you received no support from UK public funds for your first degree (for example, because you were not eligible, or because you took your first degree at a university elsewhere in the UK and we did not help you with your fees or you did your first degree outside the UK).

Living cost support for graduate entry courses

You are eligible to apply for the student loan for living costs and supplementary grants in every year of your course.  You are not entitled to apply for the young students bursary, the students outside Scotland bursary or the additional loan.

Graduate entry dentistry degree at Aberdeen University

From session 2008-2009, Aberdeen University have a new dental school for graduates only, offering a four year accelerated programme.  The NHS have agreed to pay the fees for all students for all four years of their degree. The maximum fees they will pay for any student for 2009-2010 is £1,820. For more information, see the NHS dental bursary section of our website.
