If you are taking a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Education (PGDipCE), the support arrangements will be the same as for an undergraduate course.
If you are studying in Scotland this will be tuition fees, a student loan, bursary and any supplementary grants that apply to you.
If you are studying at a UK institution outside Scotland, you can apply for a loan to pay your fees, a student loan for living costs, bursary and any supplementary grants that apply to you.
If you are taking a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Education, although you apply for support as an undergraduate student, your college or university must nominate you for a funded place.
You can apply online, download the appropriate application form (SAS 3) from our download forms section or you can get one from your institution or from us.
How previous study affects your support
If you have previously studied at postgraduate level, with or without support from UK public funds, or your first degree, funded from UK public funds, qualifies you with a profession (for example, accountancy, architecture, engineering, medicine, nursing, ministers of religion and priests, physiotherapy or podiatry) the following applies.
If you are studying in Scotland, we will not normally pay the full fee of £1,775 or give you a bursary. However, we will pay £520 towards your fees. You can also get a student loan and any supplementary grants that apply to you.
If you are studying at a UK institution outside Scotland, we will not normally give you a loan to pay your fees or give you a bursary. However, you can apply for a student loan for your living costs and any supplementary grants that apply to you.
We do not take into account any postgraduate course you have done which qualifies for an advance research-level award, such as a PhD.
However, if you want to do a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in a priority subject, as well as your student loan and supplementary grant, we will pay your fees and bursary no matter what your previous qualification is. The priority subjects for session 2008-2009 are biology, business education, English, Gaelic, geography, history, home economics, maths, modern languages (French, German, Italian, Spanish and Chinese), physical education, physics, religious education, technological education and primary (all courses including Gaelic medium).
