Applying for support for 2010- 2011

Tips and hints

  • Please remember to send your household income evidence to us (SAAS) and not to the Student Loans Company. You should also only send us clear photocopies as we can not store or return originals.
  • Higher Results may mean a change in plans – if you have already applied to SAAS then please let us know if you need to change your Course or Institution details and we will issue a revised Award Letter as soon as possible. You can let us know through your personalised online services. You must also let us know if you no longer plan to start a course this year.
  • Term-time address - If you are applying for a student loan and you know you will be living away from your main home during term-time, please make sure you selectterm-time residence in the Personal Details page of the application. When you reach the loan section it will then ask you for your term-time address. If you dont have this - you should enter your home address instead.  This will ensure that you receive the correct amount of student loan for your circumstances.
  • You do not have to take out a student loan to be entitled to a bursary or travel expenses. You do however have to supply us with the relevant income details of your household, for example, your parents', step-parent, parent's partner or your husband, wife, civil partner or partners' income.
  • If you do not supply us with income details we cannot assess your entitlement to any income assessed support and you will only be entitled to apply for the minimum student loan. In 2010-2011 the minimum loan is £915 if you are an independent student or you are living away from home during term-time or £605 if you are living in your parents' home during term-time.
