UK national or family member of such a national returning from other member states of the EU or from elsewhere in the EEA or Switzerland

To be eligible to apply for support to study a course of higher education in the UK, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You are a UK national or the family member of a UK national, and
  • You or your family member are settled in the UK within the meaning of the Immigration Act, and
  • You or your family member left the UK and have been ordinarily resident elsewhere in the EEA or Switzerland during the three years immediately prior to the relevant date.
  • If your residence during the three year period was only or mainly for education purposes, you must have been ordinarily resident anywhere in the EEA or Switzerland prior to this period of residence.

  • You or your family member were living in Scotland immediately prior to living elsewhere in the EEA or Switzerland, and no part of that residence in Scotland, during the three years prior to leaving, was only or mainly for education purposes.

If you or your family member were resident elsewhere in the UK, you should apply to the Local Education Authority (LEA) in the area you lived prior to moving abroad.
